OHP returns home after a six-day voyage
The Tall Ship Oliver Hazard Perry returned to Newport on Saturday morning after a six-day voyage with 28 teenagers and 20 adults. The ship set sail from Portsmouth, N.H. on August 14th and made stops to Gloucester, Provincetown, Nantucket, and Cuttyhunk Island and before reaching the ship’s home berth at Fort Adams State Park.
This was the sail training ship’s second Teen Summer Voyage but for many teenagers, this was the first time they had stepped aboard a boat. According to The Oliver Hazard Perry website “All who sail aboard are crew and take active roles in sailing the ship safely”. The teenagers helped with watch duty and were responsible for the 14,000 square feet of sail and seven miles of running rigging.
