Holiday Gift Shopping
Held in early December, the annual Antigua Charter Yacht Show, among other things, is also a holiday shopper’s delight. We use the commute between marinas — where some 78 superyachts, mostly power, a few sail, are docked and available for viewing by brokers — to fulfill wish lists back home.
One excellent source of beautiful gifts is Rhythm of Blue. Jewelry, block prints, books, and pottery handmade by Nancy Nicholson, of the Nicholson family of chartering fame, is for sale. These quality ceramic pieces are as authentic and unique as any you’ll find at a high-end art gallery. Nancy fires her pieces from Antigua clay. Don’t miss these lovely gift-worthy items.
For the sailors in our family, we bought English Harbour Rum and a T-shirt from A&F Sails Ltd. A&F, which opened its doors in 1982 as Adolphus & Franklyn, specializes in canvas goods and repairs for land and marine uses, with Adolphus specializing in products for land-based use, and Franklyn focusing on awnings and boat biminis and other marina uses. The company also fabricates cushions, dodgers, and small sails.
All this was pleasantly explained by staffer Marie Braithwaite, who helped me choose the perfect shirt for my sweetheart and skipper who’s busy tending the home fires.
