Zumwalt, the largest and most expensive destroyer ever built for the Navy visits Newport
At 610 feet, and with eye-catching angular architecture intended to avoid radar detection and pierce waves, Zumwalt is the largest and most expensive destroyer ever built for the Navy. Built at Bath Iron Works in Maine, the first-of-its-kind Navy ship made its way from Maine to the Naval Station in Newport on Thursday. The ship will be in Newport for four days before leaving for Baltimore, where the commissioning ceremony will take place. After Baltimore, the ship plans to go to its home port in San Diego.
