Quantum Sails Acquires HOOD Sailmakers of Middletown, RI
On Monday July 10, HOOD Sailmakers, announced the 65-year old Rhode Island-based company has been sold to Quantum Sails of Michigan. The acquisition, which includes HOOD’s offices and sail loft based in Middletown, Rhode Island, will continue the HOOD brand and products under the Quantum Umbrella. HOOD’s six employees have accepted new positions under Quantum, including former HOOD owner and CEO Rob MacMillan, who will serve as Quantum’s regional manager for New England.
For over 60 years, HOOD sails have been the premier choice for sailors seeking durability, performance and value. From early beginnings in the basement of his house in Marblehead, Massachusetts to serving international clients in the UK, Australia, Japan, and Argentina, HOOD has grown exponentially. The newest acquisition with Quantum Sails will only help increase the growth. The HOOD and Quantum brands are synonymous with performance and sail quality, offering solutions to sailors in the cruising and racing markets. Quantum Sails President Ed Reynolds explained that Quantum will uphold the terms and warranties held by owners of Hood sails.
