Nicholson’s SC Office Welcomes Volvo Car Open Tennis Pros
CHARLESTON, SC: The Charleston office of Nicholson Yachts, a boutique private yacht charter & sales company with worldwide experience, welcomes women’s professional tennis’ most highly touted players as they gathered on Daniel Island this past weekend for the Volvo Car Open.
This is the 4th year Nicholson Yachts — has assumed a sponsorship role in this popular sporting event to be televised on The Tennis Channel and live streaming on Tennis Channel Plus during the week’s events, through April 9.
The Volvo Car Open is truly an international event for the Charleston area, with players and fans attending from across the globe. The tournament averages 90,000 attendees each year and reaches more than 10 million television viewers worldwide. Nicholson Yachts‘ role in the tournament as a participating sponsor, comes after a pivotal change in the title sponsorship. This year and last, Nicholson Yachts joins with the tournament’s new title sponsor — Volvo Cars — as well as with Meredith Corporation (publishers of Family Circle Magazine), the City of Charleston, Ban, Verizon, Suntrust Bank, and Daniel Island.
Angelique Kerber, the 2015 Family Circle Cup champion, and Andrea Petkovic, the 2014 Family Circle Cup champion, will both return to Charleston in the first-class stadium situated just minutes from downtown Charleston on Daniel Island. The two top 20 players join Venus Williams and Madison Keys in a world-class player field forming for the 2017 tournament.
Nicholson Yachts and the Volvo Car Open, are a perfect fit – according to company CEO Karen Kelly Shea. From the moss-laden trees of South Carolina to the aquamarine seas of the globe where yachts of all budgets and sizes dot the horizons, tennis and yachting compliment the aesthetics of the historic City of Charleston. “Partnering with this premier sporting event is a perfect fit for Nicholson Yachts. We look forward to growing our partnership through the years and exposing our yachting clients to world class tennis in one of the world’s most beautiful locations, Daniel Island and Charleston, SC.”
“Volvo is a welcome addition to the tour and the event continues to be a pioneer in women’s professional sports, creating milestones that over the years have directly influenced the popularity of women’s professional tennis,” said Stacey Allaster, Chairman and CEO of WTA. “The tournament has a roster of past champions that include some of the biggest names in the history of women’s tennis including Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Tracy Austin, Steffi Graf, Gabriela Sabatini, Martina Hingis, Jennifer Capriati, Venus Williams, Justine Henin and Serena Williams.”
This year, look for Nicholson Yachts‘ presence all around the stadium complex, from suites to signage along the beautiful grassy lawn flanked by picturesque courts. Ushering in the community’s tournament is a part of Nicholson Yachts‘ growing presence in this historic Southern city. The company recently opened an office (by appointment only) on Daniel Island, home of the Volvo Car Open tennis tournament and Family Circle stadium.
