A newly formed chartering company, Plan B has proposed an interesting idea for their business plan. Instead of renting a boat for a luxurious escape on the water, Plan B’s contract is different- a reservation for a one-way, one-time escape from Manhattan.
Plan B notes that boat-lifting was a major part of the response to the 9/11 attacks when everything else shut down. Tugs, yachts, and ferries helped carry survivors away from the disaster and rescued over 500,000 people off the island.
In the event of another disaster, Plan B charterers will have their own sealift option including available closed-cabin models with room for up to 18 people. Plan B’s staff provides user training and maintains the boats in ready-to-go condition. The company’s strategic location allows charterers to access their escape boat within minutes. Berths are located downtown or on the West Side. Additionally, the company has slips at IGY North Cove Marina, just blocks from the World Trade Center. The price of a reservation runs at $3,000 to $9,000 annually, depending on the vessel type.
