#ThursdayThoughts got us thinking about the Latin saying Carpe Diem…
Cape Diem means “seize the day”, which of course is easier said than done. The Wikipedia definition is “Carpe diem is a Latin aphorism, usually translated “seize the day”, taken from book 1 of the Roman poet Horace’s work Odes (23 BC).
The release in 2007 of the movie The Bucket List starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman seems to have coined this term as a spinoff from the more unpleasant expression “kick the bucket” – meaning to die. The idea of writing a Bucket List of the things you wish to accomplish or experience in this lifetime, is certainly a more positive one. Whenever I meet new people at a social or business function or while traveling and the conversation leads to occupations and they learn that I work in the yachting industry, almost always the response is that taking their family or loved ones on a yacht charter vacation or even buying a boat or yacht is “definitely on my bucket list.”
It seems to be our human nature to wait until the conditions are right – the weather is better, the children are older, we have more money in the bank… Not to minimize the importance circumstances on life decisions, but how many times have you looked back and thought “I should have …” taken that trip or done something while we had the chance – while the children were still at home, before business got so complex or a family member’s health declined … The stars never really do align perfectly, and there is never the ideal time for all things. So perhaps the words carpe diem – seize the day – are very good words for us to endeavor to live by. Here is a link to some great inspirational quotes from the blog Forty One to help get you motivated: Carpe Diem
When prioritizing your “to do” or bucket list, we at Nicholson Yachts firmly believe that spending quality leisure time with your loved ones should be at the top of the list! A yacht charter is an outstanding vacation option because it blends travel & experiencing different cultures, with physical activity, together time in a confined and yet spacious setting on board a yacht (like a floating villa) that also offers excellent privacy, and combines comfortable accommodations with also being outdoors. Yachts come in all types, sizes and budgets and can be equipped with a wide variety of water sports toys and even scuba diving equipment and can be chartered just about everywhere on earth that there is water. A yacht charter is a surprisingly affordable vacation option, and given all the possible locations, yacht accommodations & amenities and water sports that are available on board the yacht, a yacht charter can be that much easier on the budget when you are not renting sports facilities ashore or going for excursions from a land based vacation.
The Nicholson Yachts team worked to come up with our list of frequently asked questions about yacht charters that we have gleaned through years of yachting consultation experience, can be found on the Nicholson Yachts How to Charter page of our web site.
